Varieties
McVitie's first made Mini Cheddars as a product line extension in 1984–1985. Later additions to the flavour list included Marmite, BBQ Beef, Branston Pickle, Cheese & Onion, Ham & Cheese, and Mature Cheddar. These snacks are a common sight in UK pubs and shops, sold in single-serving packets or multi-portion drums. A crunchier, crinkled version called Crinklys appeared in Cheese & Onion, Salt & Vinegar, Prawn Cocktail, and Sweet Chili.
In 2017, three new cheese varieties—Stilton, Red Leicester, and Smoked Applewood—joined the range, alongside Mini Cheddar Crispy Thins. By 2019, Jacob's Mini Cheddars offered eight flavours: Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar, BBQ, Red Leicester, Blue Stilton, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, and Branston Pickle. Limited-edition flavours for 2020 were Nacho Cheese & Jalapeno, Lime and Chilli, and Chipotle Chilli Wings. The following year brought Ploughman's, Strathdon Blue Cheese, and Chilli cheddar, but these three were discontinued in the UK by 2023.
The larger Cheddars Baked Cheese Biscuits, also known as Giant Mini Cheddars, typically appear in multipacks. Their flavours include Cheddar Cheese, Smoked Cheddar, BBQ, Pepper Jack, and Branston Pickle.
