Making and release

In November 2008, the BBC commissioned Power and Prodigy Pictures to produce a new version of the story.[1][2] The drama was set in 2011, unlike the 1981 version which was set in the late 20th century.[2] Nick Copus directed the production, with Michael Preger and Stephen Smallwood as producers.[1] The series was screened on 28 and 29 December 2009.[1]

Triffids were recreated in high definition for HD television viewers.[2] Scenes where Masen meets Susan and Imogen were filmed in Turville.[3]

What the cited sources add

A Guardian article from November 2008 reported that the BBC had commissioned the remake.[2] The same article stated the new version would be set in 2011.[2] It described the plot as beginning when lethal plants escape after a solar storm blinds most people.[2] The article quoted BBC Fiction chief Jane Tranter as having commissioned the series.[2]

It also noted that producer Power would distribute the drama.[2]
