The film "Archive" is a 2020 science-fiction drama set in 2038, following George Almore as he works on a human-equivalent AI.[1][2] It was the feature directorial debut of Gavin Rothery, who had previously worked as a concept artist on "Moon".[3][4]
Making and release
On 14 May 2017, it was announced that Gavin Rothery would write and direct "Archive" with Theo James starring.[5] The digital makeup and advance cleanup were handled by the UK-based company Koala FX.[6] Vertical Entertainment acquired North American distribution rights and released it digitally and in select theaters on 10 July 2020.[7][8] In late October 2018, filming started in Hungary and Norway, and it wrapped in February 2019.[6]
Among the producers were Philip Herd, Cora Palfrey, Theo James, and Andrew D. Corkin.[5][9][2][10][8] James's own production company, Untapped, was brought in as a co-producer.[9][10] The cinematography was handled by Laurie Rose.[6][3] The movie had been scheduled for its first screening at South by Southwest in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.[7][1]
