Luke Marzec is an English musician who works as a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. His debut album, *Something Good Out of Nothing*, arrived in August 2025, following three EPs—the first of which, *Chances*, came out in 2018.
Born in England, Marzec’s father worked as a set designer before moving into industrial theatre, designing large events in the late 1990s. His mother, originally from Gdańsk, Poland, encouraged his musical growth. He began playing violin at age seven, saxophone at ten, and piano soon after, spending much of his childhood practising or performing. In Year 5, he wrote his first song—a Christmas carol for organ with two vocal lines—for a school concert. At 11, he earned a place at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music in London, studying classical and jazz saxophone under Mornington Lockett, while also playing in the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Great Britain. By the end of secondary school, he had led multiple classical and jazz bands, ensembles, and orchestras.
He studied philosophy at the University of York, where he formed his first band, The Marzec Group. While living in the north, he played sax in various groups spanning jazz, psychedelic, indie, and brass bands. He later received a scholarship for a master’s degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London but left before finishing to focus on a solo career.
Marzec began gaining wider attention around 2019, largely through YouTube, appearing in videos directed by Harry Lindley. At the time, he shared a studio in London with two other musicians, working on songs for an album. His first single, “I Can’t Get You Out of My Mind,” explored the emotional fallout of a breakup and was inspired by Amy Winehouse’s *Back to Black* and Arctic Monkeys’ *AM*. It was followed by “Growing Up With You” in February 2025, featuring live drums by David Beauchamp and bass by Marzec, recorded in his home studio in Buckfastleigh, Devon. The next single, “Broken Promises,” arrived in July 2025, with a music video directed by Alice Carfrae filmed along England’s coast.
