Motorway Cops
Documentary series following UK police road policing units.
Motorway Cops is a BBC One documentary series that shadows Road Policing Units from several UK police forces. The programme captures the daily work of traffic officers, focusing on the incidents they handle. Most filming occurs at the scenes of these incidents, with occasional shifts to police stations and interview rooms. Locations covered include Yorkshire, Cheshire, Humberside, and the West Midlands.
The first series followed the Central Motorway Police Group, Cheshire Constabulary, and Humberside Police. Series two, three, and four centred on the Central Motorway Police Group. Series five featured that group alongside West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Roads Crime Team. Series six and seven focused solely on West Yorkshire Police.
The show and its sister series, Traffic Cops, were produced by Folio Productions, a subsidiary of Mentorn Media. Both aired on the BBC until 2016. All seven series of Motorway Cops were narrated by Jamie Theakston. On 28 June 2016, Mentorn Media announced that Traffic Cops had been recommissioned by Channel 5, but no mention was made of Motorway Cops.
