History
Sam Jones met Joe Dworniak at Music Works, Holloway Road Studio, where Dworniak worked as an audio engineer. Jones was then a member of the band Brimstone, and later they formed I-Level with Duncan Bridgeman. Mick Clark signed them to Virgin Records in 1982, and Lucien Grange secured a publishing deal with April Music. The band released two albums and eight singles, and were voted 'Most Promising Newcomers' by Blues & Soul readers in 1982. "Give Me" was later sampled by Sandy Kerr on "Thug Rock" (1982), AZ featuring Nas on "Gimme Yours" (1995), Lost Boyz on "So Love" (1997), and A Tribe Called Quest on "Give Me" featuring Noreaga (1998). The track also appeared on the compilation Gary Crowley's Lost 80s (2019). I-Level disbanded in 1985, and all three members continued as record producers.
