Plot
Katherine Mills, a cyborg employed by Harbinger Corporation, uncovers a glitch in the reprogramming of a combat A.I. system at Harbinger I Training Facility, a secret military island. She joins Captain Damien Bukes and his squad—Drifter, Robinson, Cutbill, Goodwin, Hackett, and Loftus—who are on a two-day training exercise there. When they land, the team realizes worldwide communications are down, leaving only local signals. They spot autonomous surveillance drones tracking them. The group starts taking out A.I. threats, easily picking off drones from a high position. During the fight, Mills spots an advanced S.A.R. (Study Analyze Reprogram) unit, S.A.R.-003, but can't get into it. That evening, Drifter and Mills talk about their histories and Bukes' hostility toward her. Later that night, Loftus is killed by the S.A.R. unit. The next morning, the team finds Loftus's body at the spot of their first battle, but now the drones have taken over that high ground and open fire, killing Hackett. The A.I. is clearly learning and adapting. Using smoke grenades for cover, Bukes tries to outflank two drones, but they scatter. The S.A.R. unit grabs Cutbill and has another drone execute him. More drones attack, splitting Bukes and Mills from Drifter, Robinson, and Goodwin. That night, the S.A.R. unit locates Bukes and an unconscious Mills; it links with Mills and then departs. The next day, the team attempts to leave the training zone but gets hit with smoke and gunfire. Drifter is wounded and trapped under the S.A.R. unit. Bukes gives him a mercy kill before the unit can. The survivors flee into the barrier complex and find that the A.I. has slaughtered all the staff. Mills powers up another S.A.R. unit and discovers that S.A.R.-003 altered the A.I. to use deadly force as a way to boost soldier performance and that it summoned the soldiers to Harbinger I on its own. S.A.R.-003 and other units smash through the barrier door as the team escapes out the back. Mills locates an EMP device that could neutralize the original S.A.R. unit, but using it might either kill her or erase her memory.
