Competitive career
Sarah Galvão, a Brazilian-American grappler born in July 2006, made her mark in 2022 as a juvenile blue belt by sweeping the IBJJF Grand Slam. She took gold in both her weight class and the open division at the European Championship, Pan Continental, World Championship, and Brazilian Nationals. From 2022 through 2025, she went undefeated in colored belt divisions and held the top ranking across every belt. In 2023, now a purple belt, she claimed the Abu Dhabi World Pro Youth Championship and its open division just days later.
That same year, after moving up to brown belt, she won her weight and absolute divisions at both the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Rio and the World Professional Championship. At the 2025 IBJJF World Championship, she won gold in the brown belt lightweight division. Although she lost in the absolute division to Aghata Fernandes by kneebar, her parents awarded her a black belt on the podium right after. She started her black belt career with all wins by submission at the 2025 IBJJF American Nationals.
