Background

Christopher Philip Krumm was born on December 19, 1986, and was 25 at the time of the murders. His father, James Philip Krumm, was born on January 5, 1956, and taught at Casper College. Christopher's mother, Carol Krumm, died of cancer in 2005. James Krumm was dating Heidi Jeannette Arnold, a math instructor at the same college.

Christopher graduated from Natrona County High School in 2005 and studied electrical engineering at Colorado School of Mines. A former calculus teacher at Casper College described him as very intelligent but with poor social skills. He was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in high school and believed he inherited it from his father, whom he blamed for his condition. Three years before the attacks, father and son had a falling out.

Christopher lived in Vernon, Connecticut, working as an engineer. Six weeks before the murders, he applied for a handgun license in Connecticut but did not wait for it to be processed.
