Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF), also known as Three Day Sickness, is an arthropod vector-borne disease of cattle caused by bovine ephemeral fever virus (BEFV), a member of the genus Ephemerovirus in the family Rhabdoviridae. The disease is characterized by sudden fever, stiffness, lameness, and nasal and ocular discharges, and is found in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and eastern Australia, but not in the Americas or Europe except western parts of Turkey.
