Lore & Background
Ky-Mani's early life was defined by a sharp pivot from athletics to artistry. While his youth was focused on sports like soccer and American football, a musical turning point arrived during a recording session in Miami. Asked simply to sing a hook for a track, he discovered a new path beyond the playing field. His taste in music had been informed by the hip-hop, rock, and pop he heard on American radio stations after relocating at age nine. He received piano and guitar lessons under his mother's direction and played the trumpet in his high school band. As a teenager, he began rapping and deejaying, releasing his first single, "Unnecessary Badness." His early career saw him experimenting with laying tracks alongside brothers Stephen, Julian, and Damian, blending the reggae legacy with the urban sounds of Miami.
