Home (Boardwalk Empire)

"Home" is the seventh episode of Boardwalk Empire's debut season, airing on HBO on October 31, 2010. Tim Van Patten and Paul Simms wrote the episode, with Allen Coulter directing. The story follows Nucky Thompson as he confronts painful memories of his abusive father, Jimmy Darmody recruits a fellow war veteran into his crew, and Lucky Luciano and an associate strike a deal with the D'Alessio brothers to push into Atlantic City.

In Chicago, Jimmy learns from Al Capone that Liam, the Irish mobster who scarred Pearl, regularly eats at a specific diner. Later, a doctor examines Jimmy's lingering war wound and suggests a psychological test for veterans. While waiting, Jimmy meets Richard Harrow, a badly disfigured former sharpshooter wearing a tin mask. Sensing Richard's discomfort, Jimmy lies to the nurses and gets them both out of the test, then takes Richard to the Four Deuces for free drinks and a prostitute.

Back in Atlantic City, Angela, Jimmy's estranged fiancée, is revealed to be having an affair with Mary, the wife of photographer Robert Dittrich. Mary has arranged for an art dealer to appraise Angela's paintings. A man calling himself "Michael Lewis" offers Chalky White a deal to buy alcohol directly, bypassing Nucky; Chalky suspects it's a loyalty test and refuses. Luciano and "Lewis"—actually Meyer Lansky—meet the D'Alessio brothers to discuss their bootlegging operation. Luciano suggests robbing one of Nucky's casinos and assures the brothers he can get Rothstein's backing against Nucky.

Nucky and Eli's elderly father has an accident at the old Thompson family home, so Eli takes him in. Nucky gives the dilapidated property to Damien Flemming, an associate eager to start a family. Jealous Lucy confronts Nucky about his relationship with Margaret. When Margaret convinces him he can confide in her, Nucky reveals how his father hated and abused him, and how those memories still haunt him. Van Alden learns of Jimmy's involvement in the truck heist from a petty criminal who helped Jimmy and Capone, and persuades the man to testify.

Jimmy confronts Liam, telling him he never wants to see his face again. As Jimmy leaves, Richard Harrow, positioned in an apartment across the street, shoots Liam just below the eye with a sniper rifle, killing him. Lucy watches *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde* alone after Nucky breaks his promise to attend with her.
