Lore & Background
Originally no journey or even contact between Gehenna and Assiah was possible, but any demon can pass into Assiah by possessing a living being there. The True Cross Order exists to protect Assiah from Gehenna. When the seal on Rin Okumura's powers breaks, Satan tries to drag him back to Gehenna, an attempt that ends in the death of Rin's foster father Shiro Fujimoto. Mephisto Pheles, as the demon king Samael, ranks second only to Lucifer in Gehenna's hierarchy.
