Black Sabbath, the English heavy metal band, put out 19 studio albums, eight live albums, 14 compilations, three EPs, 37 singles, nine video albums, and 20 music videos over their career. The group got its start in 1968 with John "Ozzy" Osbourne on vocals, Tony Iommi on guitar, Terence "Geezer" Butler on bass, and Bill Ward on drums. The lineup shifted many times. By 2007, the second most recent lineup—Ronnie James Dio, Vinny Appice, Iommi, and Butler—recorded three new songs for a compilation, but the original four were still considered the current lineup, having been back together since 1997. Those 2007 sessions were a one-off that led to the side project Heaven & Hell, which released a new studio album, *The Devil You Know*, in 2009. In June 2013, a partial reunion of the original members put out *13*, the first album with Osbourne on vocals since 1978's *Never Say Die!*. Black Sabbath played their final concert for eight years in their hometown in 2017 to wrap up a farewell tour. After that, there were occasional partial reunions, most notably when Osbourne and Iommi performed at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The original lineup got together one last time for a show called *Back to the Beginning* at Villa Park on 5 July 2025, which served as the final performance for both the band and Osbourne as a solo artist; Osbourne died seventeen days later.
