Unlight Domain

History

Unlight Domain was founded in 2005 in Matanzas by guitarist and director Iván Leonard and drummer Jordany Pérez, who had been playing in Puertas Negras. Vocalist José Blanco joined shortly after, followed by bassist Liuber Sobrino, previously of Amenthis. The band initially had no name when they recorded the first two songs, In the Name of Satan and Dark Battle. During a meeting between José Blanco and Aramis Laurencio, who later became the band's manager and lyric writer, two names were proposed: Aramis suggested Unlight, while José preferred Domain. They combined the two to form Unlight Domain.

In July 2005, the band recorded four more songs, which together with the earlier two formed their first demo CD, Unlight Domain. This work featured more straightforward and linear music, with heavy external influences. All music was composed by Iván Leonard, and lyrics were written by Aramis Laurencio, José Blanco, and Iván. The band was dissatisfied with the production. Despite limitations, the demo earned a nomination for best demo metal on Cuerda Viva, a Cuban TV show covering metal and alternative music, and the band was also nominated as best novel band and most popular band.

The second demo, Shadows, Blood and the Unholyone, was completed in August 2007. The band set aside outside influences and achieved a higher level of arrangement, beginning to develop a personal black metal style. Production improved but still fell short of the band's expectations. All music was again composed by Iván Leonard, with all lyrics by Aramis Laurencio. This demo also received a Cuerda Viva nomination for best demo metal. The song From the Shadows was selected by Cuban record company Bis Music for the compilation Rock Vivo, featuring prominent rock bands from the country. Due to ongoing production issues, Iván Leonard established Supremacy Studio in his own home and thereafter served as the band's producer.
