Lore & Background
Knowles began his career in office and medical equipment sales, moving to Houston in 1976 for Xerox. By 1988, he sold CT/MRI systems at Philips and later worked in neurosurgical sales at Johnson & Johnson. In 1992, he left this field to launch Music World Entertainment. He secured Destiny's Child a Columbia Records deal by 1997, placing them on the Men in Black soundtrack.
To broaden their appeal, he brought in producers like Wyclef Jean, Jermaine Dupri, and Master P to fuse hip hop with R&B. The group won multiple Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and BET Awards before Billboard inducted them into the All Time Hot 100 Artists. Knowles also managed Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland individually. Tensions arose when former members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson sued him for misappropriating funds. Later, he founded Spirit Rising Music (Music World Gospel) in 2002 and acquired the Compadre country catalog in 2016, featuring artists like Johnny Cash. In 2018, he joined the advisory board of Tunedly, then became CMO for Bangi in 2019.

His academic contributions are equally significant; he is a visiting professor at Texas Southern University, where the Mathew Knowles Institute was established in his honor in 2018.
He also holds positions at the University of Houston, Prairie View A&M University, the Art Institute, and the London College of Contemporary Music. In 2015, he published 'The DNA of Achievers: 10 Traits of Highly Successful Professionals,' discussing entrepreneurship and his industry seminars. His personal life saw him marry Tina Beyoncé in 1980; they divorced in November 2011 after a complex legal process starting in 2009. He remarried Gena Avery on June 30, 2013.
