Griffith's Behelit
A crimson stone that turns despair into divinity through blood sacrifice.
The Crimson Behelit is the central catalyst for Griffith's transformation from a charismatic mercenary leader into the demonic entity Femto. This artifact, often called the 'Crimson' due to its color, sits at the heart of the series' most tragic turning point: the Eclipse. It does not function as a weapon for combat but as a metaphysical key that demands an ultimate price. When Griffith, physically broken and mentally shattered after his torture by Midland's forces, activates the stone, it summons the God Hand to offer him godhood in exchange for sacrificing his entire band of comrades.

Lore & Background
Griffith possessed the Crimson Behelit long before the events of the Golden Age arc. It remained dormant during his rise with the Band of the Hawk, even as he forged bonds with Guts and Casca. The artifact only awakened after Griffith's arrest for seducing Princess Charlotte and his subsequent torture, which left him physically ruined and stripped of his dreams. In this state of total despair, with no other path to his ambition, the Behelit activated. It summoned the Eclipse, a convergence of realms where the God Hand appeared. To ascend, Griffith had to sacrifice the Band of the Hawk. The ritual resulted in the slaughter of nearly every member by Apostles. Guts and Casca were the sole survivors physically, but Griffith, reborn as Femto, raped Casca before Guts lost an eye and an arm trying to protect her.
Reader's Guide
The Behelit functions strictly as a trigger that activates only when its owner reaches a state of total hopelessness where their singular desire to achieve a goal overrides all other bonds. It does not work through simple will or command; it requires the user to be broken enough to sacrifice those they love most. Once activated, the artifact opens a portal to the astral plane, summoning the God Hand and initiating the Eclipse ritual. The user must then offer the lives of their closest companions as payment. If the sacrifice is accepted, the user ascends beyond the state of an ordinary Apostle to join the God Hand. While Griffith's Behelit created Femto, other such artifacts exist in the world, waiting for others who fall into similar depths of despair to activate them.
