Production

The serial was filmed in black-and-white as a live-action show in France in 1965. After being dubbed and given an anglicized title in 1967, it first aired on BBC1 on Monday afternoons from 2 October 1967 to 1 January 1968, in the time slot following Blue Peter. Repeated several times, it became a staple of school holiday television. Filming took place in and around the village of Belvédère in Alpes-Maritimes. Mehdi El Glaoui, who played Sebastian, was the son of Cécile Aubry and Si Brahim El Glaoui, eldest son of Thami El Glaoui, the Pasha of Marrakesh.
