Jens Nowotny (born 11 January 1974) is a German former professional footballer who captained Bayer Leverkusen from 1999 to 2002. During his time at the club, the team finished as runners-up in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League in the 2001–02 season.

Ballack moved to Bayer Leverkusen for €4.1 million in 1999. The 2001–02 season saw him win a slew of runners-up medals: Bayer Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, UEFA Champions League, and Germany lost to Brazil in the 2002 World Cup Final.
