Key facts and history
Gotham Girls borrows its character designs and voice actors from the main DC Animated Universe series.[1] The series begins as lighthearted fun in its first season.[1] Season 2 adds mystery and intrigue, giving Batgirl her own episode and story arc.[1] The third and final season takes a darker turn with a long-form narrative told over ten episodes.[1]
That DVD shows the episodes in a straight sequence, removing the interactive choose-your-own-path feature.[2] A compilation called "Harley Quinn and the Gotham Girls" brings together issues #1 through #5 of Gotham Girls.[3]
What the cited sources add
Sayantan Gayen, writing for CBR, praised Gotham Girls for its women-led narrative and humor.[4] Gayen highlighted the series' strong character dynamics and clever storytelling.[4] The reviewer noted that the series evolved from lighthearted antics to darker themes in its final season.[4] Gayen described the series as showing a different side of Gotham City from the perspective of strong female characters.[1]
Gayen considers the series a legitimate spin-off that found its heart in the women of Gotham City.[1] The CBR article remarks that the series' flash animation is not the finest representation of that software or format.[1]
