History

BC Khimki was founded on January 5, 1997, and won the first seasons' championship of its regional league, earning a place in the Russian Superleague A. The following year, the club positioned itself among the top 10 basketball clubs in Russia, securing a spot in the FIBA Korać Cup, where it faced defeated leaders of the Turkish Super League, YUBA Liga, and Bulgarian League. The team remained mid-table in the Russian Super League until the 2002–03 season, when it finished fourth. Subsequently, Russian high society behind the club strengthened the roster by signing Gianmarco Pozzecco, Óscar Torres, and Rubén Wolkowyski. Khimki later participated in the FIBA EuroChallenge and the EuroCup. In 2006, the team played in the EuroChallenge championship game against Joventut Badalona. On October 7, 2006, Khimki lost 98–91 to the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers. The club won the Russian Cup in 2008 and played in the EuroCup championship game in 2009. Khimki first entered the EuroLeague in the 2009–10 season, also playing in that competition during the 2010–11 and 2012–13 seasons. The team won the EuroCup championship in 2012 and 2015.
