Gameplay
Battle of Z is a team fighting action title that supports up to eight players battling one another, with up to four players in cooperative play. Players can perform attacks together and heal one another. Online multiplayer battles are supported, and PS Vita ad-hoc connection is available. A multiplayer restriction prevents two players from playing on the same console; the developers stated this was to ensure each player experiences the best possible graphics in full screen. The game features over 70 characters, with each transformation separated into its own character rather than grouped together. Team battles can include giant characters such as Great Ape Vegeta, Great Ape Gohan, and Hirudegarn. The key feature is four-versus-four team battle action. Teammates share a special energy meter called the Genki Gauge, which increases when attacking opponents and, when filled, allows the character to perform an ultimate attack. Any teammate can decide to give or use energy from the gauge to perform an attack. Playable characters can team up for techniques such as Synchro Rush, Meteor Chain, and Revive Soul. Meteor Chain involves partners launching consecutive attacks, timing them so the opponent cannot counter, and is an effective way to fill the Genki Gauge quickly. Synchro Rush has characters rush the opponent simultaneously for simultaneous hits. Revive Soul revives a fallen partner by giving them energy to re-enter battle. Energy Share allows teammates to share ki with each other. Villains can team up with Heroes, but they do not show appreciation when given ki or extra energy to heal. There are four battle types for playable characters: Melee Type, skilled at close combat with melee combos and moves such as Kaio-ken Attack, Dance of the Sword, and Recoome Kick; and Ki Blast Type, skilled at long range battle, able to make consecutive attacks using the Genki Gauge, with moves such as Consecutive Energy Blast, Death Beam, and Spirit Ball.
