Disney Magical World
A life simulation game set in Disney-themed worlds.
Disney Magical World is a life simulation game for the Nintendo 3DS, developed by h.a.n.d. and published by Bandai Namco Games. It launched in Japan on August 1, 2013, followed by a North American release from Nintendo on April 11, 2014, and a European release on October 24, 2014. A sequel, Disney Magical World 2, arrived on the 3DS in 2015 and later on the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
Players control either a pre-existing Mii or a custom in-game character to take on quests in the hub town of Castleton. Activities include fishing, collecting cards, gardening, crafting clothes, and running the town’s café—both decorating it and preparing food to sell. Completing these tasks earns stickers, which function as a progression system, unlocking further content.
The game has four main storylines, each set in a different Disney world: Cinderella’s, Wonderland, the Hundred Acre Wood, and Agrabah. Players can tackle these in any order, helping iconic characters by battling ghosts in dungeons. In Cinderella’s world, there’s also a rhythm game for attending balls. Beyond the main plots, numerous Disney characters and other non-playable characters appear in Castleton, offering side quests that send players back into these worlds to forage for materials. As the story advances, players can craft better weapons and armor from resources found in dungeons.
Disney Magical World received mostly positive reviews, earning a 71/100 score on Metacritic. Nintendo World Report gave it an 8.5/10, praising the variety of activities and gameplay, though noting that loading times disrupted the flow. Game Revolution rated it 3 out of 5, saying it was packed with characters and collectibles but criticized the repetitive tasks and lack of a central attraction. As of March 31, 2014, the game had shipped 500,000 copies.
