The Enchantment Under the Sea Band
The soundtrack to destiny when the future hung in the balance.
The Enchantment Under the Sea Band is the house band for Hill Valley High School’s 1955 dance, serving as the musical engine behind one of time travel history’s most pivotal nights. The band is Marvin Berry and the Starlighters, led by Marvin Berry, a jazz musician and electric guitar player. Their performance acts as a catalyst for the romantic reunion between George and Lorraine McFly, securing the timeline itself. Far more than background entertainment, this group occupies a critical space in franchise lore; their setlist ensures the protagonist can orchestrate his parents' first kiss, thereby guaranteeing his own existence.

Lore & Background
Significance transcends music; they anchor a moment where destiny hangs in equilibrium. During their set, Marty McFly takes the place of the lead guitarist, who injured his hand freeing Marty from the trunk of the band's car. This impromptu collaboration yields a rendition of 'Johnny B. Goode' that motivates Marvin Berry to call his cousin Chuck and hold up the phone so that he can hear the new sound.
Reader's Guide
The Enchantment Under the Sea Band bridges the gap between mundane high school life and extraordinary time travel events. When Marty takes the place of the injured lead guitarist, George and Lorraine share their first kiss while he performs. The band's existence highlights the fragility of cause and effect within the Back to the Future universe; a single note played out of time could have erased the future. Fans often remember the band not for their original repertoire, but for the legendary 'Johnny B. Goode' performance. This moment remains one of the most iconic moments of the franchise.
