Background
Avicii's third album was first mentioned in late 2016 after he signed with Universal Sweden, with a planned 2017 release. He released the EP Avīci (01) on 11 August 2017, stating it was the first of three EPs leading to the full album. Recording resumed in late 2017, and in March 2018 he shared updates of demos including tracks that became "Hold the Line", "Bad Reputation", "Tough Love", "Ain't a Thing", and "Fades Away". The track "Never Leave Me" was the last he worked on, finished two days before he left for Oman. After his death in April 2018, a representative said there were no plans to release new material. In April 2019, collaborators were enlisted to finish the album, drawing from 16 possible songs. Fans could hear the album early on 1 and 2 June 2019 at music cubes worldwide.
Singles
The lead single "SOS" was released on 10 April 2019, debuting at number one on the Swedish singles chart within two days. "Tough Love" followed on 9 May 2019, with a music video on 14 May; it samples A.R. Rahman's "Banarasiya" from the film Raanjhanaa. "Heaven", featuring Chris Martin, was released as the third single on 6 June 2019, with a tribute video on 24 June. "Fades Away" was the fourth and final single on 5 December 2019; the single version features MishCatt instead of Noonie Bao.
Track listing
Avicii is credited by his legal name Tim Bergling throughout. "Heart Upon My Sleeve" is an instrumental from his album True. "SOS" contains an interpolation of "No Scrubs" by TLC. "Freak" samples "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith and "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto.
