Career
Callum Hann is an Australian chef, restaurateur, television personality, and cookbook author. He first appeared on MasterChef Australia in 2010 as a 20-year-old contestant on the show’s second series. He finished as runner-up to Adam Liaw in the finale on 25 July 2010, which was watched by over 5.7 million Australians and became the most-watched non-sporting event in Australian television history at that time. As runner-up, he received paid work experience at the restaurant of judge George Calombaris and $10,000 for living expenses.
In 2012, he returned for MasterChef Australia All-Stars, competing against 11 other former contestants. He won the finale on 19 August 2012, beating Chris Badenoch and Kate Bracks, and earned $20,000 for the Cancer Council Australia. In 2020, he appeared on MasterChef Australia: Back to Win, a re-branded 12th series featuring 24 returning contestants and new judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and Jock Zonfrillo. He was eliminated on 14 July 2020, finishing fourth. He later returned for series 17, another Back to Win format, and again finished as runner-up.
Outside of MasterChef, Hann co-founded Sprout Cooking School (now Sprout Training) in 2011 with business partner Themis Chryssidis, offering cooking classes for both professionals and home cooks. The Sprout Group later opened three restaurants: Lou’s Place in Nuriootpa in 2020, Eleven Restaurant (now Roma) in 2021, and Olive in 2024, the latter two in Adelaide. He also serves on the board of Brand SA. Hann has written three cookbooks: The Starter Kitchen (2012), I’d Eat That! (2014), and Quick. Easy. Healthy. (2016). He is a presenter on Discover, a travel and lifestyle program on Seven Adelaide.
Hann was born around 1989 in South Australia and grew up in Nuriootpa. He studied sports engineering at the University of Adelaide before entering MasterChef. He is married to Crystal Jagger, a designer and restaurant owner, whom he met in 2015 and married in 2018. They have three children: daughters born in 2020 and 2025, and a son born in 2022.
