Guests
The show's guests are primarily involved with American football, though other sports figures appear, including current or former athletes, coaches, commissioners, and agents. Non-sports guests are less common, but Patrick typically asks them at least one sports-related question. Appearances often coincide with the guest's sport being in-season, or with a movie, music album, or news event. Few guests appear year-round; some appear only once annually.
Patrick has stated he welcomes anyone who feels misrepresented or misquoted. High-profile guests have appeared after heated or controversial events. Patrick rejects requests to restrict questions, saying this would cheat his audience, and some guests have cancelled appearances due to his insistence on candor. Regular guests include reporters, broadcasters, and former coaches and athletes who now work for outlets such as Sports Illustrated, Yahoo!
Sports, various networks, and local media. Patrick's interviews are known for wry, irreverent questions, hypotheticals, and occasional bets. In January 2006, he bet Kurt Warner that if Warner led the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl by 2008, Patrick would campaign for his Hall of Fame induction; Warner reached the Super Bowl in the 2008 season and was inducted in 2017. Another bet with rapper Nelly involved the St. Louis Rams winning the 2007 Super Bowl; the Rams did not make the playoffs that year.
ESPN Radio
The show aired on ESPN Radio from 1999 to 2007, originating from Bristol, Connecticut most of the year and from New York City during the NBA season. It debuted on September 13, 1999, and was heard weekdays from 1 pm to 4 pm ET. It was considered the network's signature program due to Patrick's high profile and ability to attract well-known guests. The show often broadcast live from the Super Bowl site and during ESPN The Weekend in Orlando.
The ESPN Radio SportsCenter anchor was Dan Davis. From 1999 to 2004, former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Rob Dibble co-hosted, with ESPN NFL analyst Sean Salisbury as a regular third participant. Dibble later left for The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Net. During the 2 pm ET hour, Patrick was reunited with former SportsCenter co-anchor Keith Olbermann, who appeared Fridays in 2004 and 2005, then daily from late 2005. This hour was called "The Big Show," a nickname from their SportsCenter days.
Radio, TV, and Internet
The Dan Patrick Show returned on October 1, 2007, produced by the Content Factory and syndicated by Premiere Networks. It initially aired on Clear Channel stations and later expanded nationwide. On January 20, 2009, Fox Sports Radio added the show to its national lineup, replacing Out Of Bounds. The show was heard on Sirius XM 247 via Fox Sports Radio simulcast, and was removed from the Sirius platform in January 2010.
It is simulcast online at danpatrick.com and on the Fox Sports Radio site. DirecTV's Audience Network began simulcasting in August 2009. In October 2009, DirecTV Sports Group purchased the show's rights from the Content Factory and began producing it. The show simulcast on Fox Sports Net and Comcast Sports Net starting October 25, 2010; those broadcasts ended by October 2012, though DirecTV continued on Root Sports.
It aired on NBC Sports Network from November 5, 2012, until February 28, 2019, then moved to B/R Live on March 25, 2019. On November 13, 2025, it was reported the show would be simulcast on the relaunched NBCSN.
The Danettes
Patrick is joined on air by the "Danettes": executive producer Paul Pabst ("Paulie"), executive producer Todd "LVD" Fritz ("Fritzy"), director of operations Patrick O'Connor ("Seton"), and board ops chief Marvin "Small Hands" Prince. Patrick regularly chats with the crew about sports and other topics, encouraging honest opinions. He has acknowledged Howard Stern's influence in incorporating staff into the on-air show. The Danettes have their own television program, The Box Score, which aired on DirecTV and previously on NBC Sports Network until August 16, 2013.
The 30-minute show recaps highlights and behind-the-scenes elements, hosted by Casey Geraghty until his departure on November 27, 2013; the show was revamped and returned in early 2014. The term "Danette" was coined by former NBA player Reggie Miller. Perloff left the show on December 23, 2021, to co-host an afternoon show on CBS Sports Radio, the first Danette departure. Will Ferrell joined the Danettes for two days in August 2023 while the show was in Dublin.
On April 7, 2026, Seton announced he would leave the radio show, with his last show on April 10, 2026, to focus on digital and social aspects for the remainder of the program.
