In Their Own Story

The air inside the Georgia Dome is thick with reverence as the lights dim on a tribute night. A hologram flickers to life at midfield, casting the image of a player in the classic black and red jersey, number 53, scanning the field with eyes that seem to predict the future before it happens. Fans whisper the name 'Iron Man' as the projection shows him diving for an interception, a moment frozen in time from 1967, reminding everyone that while rosters change, legends like Jake Scott are the bedrock upon which this team was built.

Reader's Guide

Scott was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Athens (GA) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. It was announced on May 17, 2011, that Scott had been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was inducted with Bill Stanfill into the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll on November 18, 2010.
