History

The franchise originated when the Macon Pirates relocated to Augusta, Georgia, after the 1987 season due to poor attendance, becoming the Augusta Pirates in the South Atlantic League. Before the San Francisco Giants took over affiliation after the 2004 season, the GreenJackets were part of the Boston Red Sox organization, which had replaced the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Red Sox affiliation brought immediate success as the GreenJackets won the South Atlantic League championship in their first year as an affiliate.

The 2020 season was cancelled for Augusta due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2021 MiLB Reorganization, the Braves invited Augusta to be their Low-A affiliate in the Low-A East, which became known as the Carolina League in 2022 and was reclassified as Single-A. The team name references The Masters golf tournament, where the winner receives a green jacket; the logo depicts a green yellowjacket wasp wearing a tam o' shanter cap. For one week each year, the GreenJackets rebrand as the Pimento Cheese, honoring the pimento cheese sandwich sold at the Masters, with that sandwich featured on all team branding.

Stadium

The GreenJackets play at SRP Park, a 4,782-seat stadium that opened on April 12, 2018, as part of Riverside Village at Hammond's Ferry overlooking the Savannah River and Augusta. SRP Federal Credit Union purchased the naming rights. SRP Park replaced Lake Olmstead Stadium, which was built primarily as a baseball facility between 1994 and 1995 and seated 4,400 with nearly 1,000 box seats, 830 reserved seats, and over 2,000 general admission seats.
