Lisa Nowak was born Lisa Marie Caputo in Washington, D.C., on May 10, 1963, and grew up in Rockville, Maryland.[1]

Life and work

Nowak logged over 1,500 flight hours in more than 30 aircraft during her Navy career.[2] She was selected as a NASA mission specialist candidate in May 1996 and completed astronaut training in August 1998.[3][4] After her arrest, NASA terminated her assignment as a serving Navy officer on March 7, 2007.[5] In September 1992, Nowak obtained a Master of Science in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.[6]

After Discovery docked with the ISS, Nowak and Wilson employed the Canadarm to move the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module.[7] Nowak's time in space on that mission totaled 12 days, 18 hours, and 36 minutes.[8]

What the cited sources add

According to the arrest affidavit, Nowak believed Colleen Shipman was romantically involved with Oefelein and decided to confront her.[9] Police reported that Nowak wore a wig and trench coat, waited for Shipman's plane, and boarded the same shuttle bus.[9] The affidavit states that Nowak sprayed pepper spray into Shipman's car after Shipman rolled down the window.[9] An officer saw Nowak throw away a bag containing the wig and BB gun.[9]

Police also found a steel mallet, a folding knife, rubber tubing, and $600 in a bag Nowak was carrying.[9]
