Development

The game used a modified version of the engine from Viva Football, a 1998 title by Crimson and Virgin Interactive. Producer David Casey told Official Dreamcast Magazine the aim was to make the game more accessible by slowing it down and simplifying controls. The 16 sides were chosen to represent major territories and one well-known team from other countries. Only two Premier League sides were included due to a pre-existing contract with Electronic Arts; Manchester United was cited in previews but replaced by Chelsea in the final game. The developers recorded real audio at each of the 16 stadia.

Reception

Official Dreamcast Magazine gave the title 70/100, with Steve Hill calling it as good as any Dreamcast football title and praising its atmosphere and authenticity. Dreamcast Magazine's Martin Mathers scored it 58/100, finding the visuals adequate but the gameplay sluggish. Greg Howson of The Guardian awarded 3/5 stars, noting accurate details like Zidane's bald patch but criticizing the match experience.
