Guerilla Poubelle
French punk band with anarchist and DIY values.
Last updated
Guerilla Poubelle is a French punk band formed in 2003, whose name translates to 'Dustbin (Garbage Can) Guerrilla' in English. The band's lyrics are rooted in anarchist and existentialist beliefs, and they are known for their DIY ethos, with lead singer and guitarist Till also founding the record label and concert promoter Guerilla Asso in 2004.
History
After the ska-punk band Les Betteraves split, four musicians got together to form a new group. Their early lineup included a painter who would create art onstage and sing backup. In 2005, they put out their first album, Il faut repeindre le monde… en noir. Later, after some member changes, they settled as a trio.
The band has put out four full-length albums plus many splits and EPs, releasing them on their own Guerilla Asso label, as well as Asian Man Records and Crash Disques. In mid-2006, they shared a split album with Coquettish and then went on a major tour of Japan. They have played more than a thousand shows across France, Europe, Japan, Canada, and the United States. True to their principles, Guerilla Poubelle has never joined the French royalty collection society SACEM, even though they have sold a lot of records for an indie act.
Sexual assault allegations against Till.
In May 2021, an investigation by Mediapart, conducted with the #MusicToo collective, reported allegations of abuse, harassment, and sexual violence against singer and guitarist Till Lemoine. Three of his former partners accused him of exerting a toxic influence, committing assaults, humiliations, and dominating behaviors, and having non-consensual, unprotected intercourse between 2006 and 2008. In the same investigation, Till defended himself against these accusations.
