Release and legacy
Originally issued on Dill Records in 1995 on CD and cassette, Pezcore was reissued on Asian Man in 1996 on CD only, omitting two tracks from the Dill version: "Jeffersons" and "Laverne and Shirley". In October 2002, a tenth anniversary edition remixed and remastered by Fueled by Ramen appeared. Another reissue, accompanied by a live DVD, came out on Sleep It Off Records on March 18, 2008, following a January 5, 2008 announcement.
Song information
"Liquor Store" had earlier appeared on the Better Class Of Losers CS (rerecorded) and on Songs About Drinking. The song "Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts" was inspired by a friend of Chris from elementary school, an architecture student at the University of Florida in Gainesville, who wrote "Less Than Jake are sellouts" in his office after the band won a battle of the bands and played at a record store opening; the friend's nickname was Johnny Quest. "Big" first surfaced on Better Class Of Losers CS and on the Making Fun of Things You Don't Understand 10". "Shotgun" was also on Better Class Of Losers CS and Making Fun Of Things You Don't Understand 10" (rerecorded). "Black Coffee" appeared on the Unglued 7" and was one of the original Less Than Jake demos. "Throw The Brick" was written in the studio during the Pezcore recording sessions. "Growing up on a Couch" has been frequently referred to as "Smoking Pot on a Couch", a name that came from a bootleg recording of a 1998 show in Atlanta, Georgia, where Chris introduced the song incorrectly. "Downbeat" originally appeared on Making Fun Of Things You Don't Understand 10". "Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore" first appeared on the Six Pack To Go Comp CD; Vinnie wrote it about a girl who liked Chris, noting her father's photo album of people in the bathroom, her having sex with her cousin, and her eating all his Ramen and Kool-Aid. "Process" also appeared on Six Pack To Go Comp CD and was one of the original Less Than Jake demos. The liquor store where the band got "Three Quarts Drunk" is depicted in the "Gainesville Rock City" music video. The intro to "Boomtown" was removed on the 2002 rerelease.
