History

The club traces its origins to 1930, when it was known as Preparatoria and consisted solely of university students. In 1966 the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol allowed the club to join the Tercera División de México under the name Carolinos UAP, taken from the university's main building. By 1969 Rafael Moreno Valle owned the team; he later left to become a co-owner of Puebla. Management passed to the university's Department of Physical Studies, but the club folded in 1971 after its final match in the Copa México on August 22, 1971.

In the mid-1990s, during the term of rector José Doger Corte, Eduardo Rivera Hernández and Paul Moreno proposed buying a Segunda División franchise for the university. The club was required to consist only of university students. It played its first game at the Estadio Ignacio Zaragoza under former Puebla player Gustavo Moscoso. Lobos became the first Segunda División club to broadcast its games on television, with Televisa Puebla airing twelve games.

The FMF congratulated the board for setting an example that inspired other Segunda División clubs. After a poor first season, the club contended for a playoff spot the next year against the Águilas of UPAEP. The club folded three years later due to poor performance and lack of financial support; a group of engineers who had provided economic backing left, leaving the university without a team for nearly two months.

Stadium

The club initially played at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in the late 1960s, then moved to the Estadio Ignacio Zaragoza by the early 1990s. In 1999 it acquired its own stadium adjacent to the university, with a capacity of 9,000. An expansion of the Estadio Universitario BUAP from 9,000 to 20,700 was announced in October 2011, with completion scheduled for January 2012.

Official jersey

The home kit consisted of a white shirt with a blue sash, blue shorts, and white socks; the away kit was a blue shirt with a white sash, blue shorts, and socks. The manufacturer from 2011 to 2019 was Pirma. Earlier manufacturers included Vento (1997–2002), Lotto (2002), Pirma (2003), Cruzeiro (2004–2006), Lotto (2007–08), and Kappa (2009). Before 2011 the uniform used university colors—green, yellow, gold, and blue—and varied over time. In 2007, after joining forces with Puebla FC, the club adopted a sash running from the right shoulder to the left. In 2011 the team switched to red, black, and white; in its final years the home uniform was a white shirt with red and black details, white shorts, and white socks.
