WOMAC
Standardized questionnaire for knee and hip osteoarthritis assessment.
The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) is a set of standardized questionnaires for evaluating patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. It assesses pain, stiffness, and physical functioning, with higher scores indicating worse symptoms. Developed in 1982, it is self-administered and has been translated into more than 65 languages. The WOMAC is also used for conditions such as back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. It takes about 12 minutes to complete and is available in short, telephone, and online versions. The American College of Rheumatology notes that test-retest reliability varies across subscales, with the stiffness subscale showing low reliability.
