Background

In 2013, the band spent considerable time connecting with fans, which heavily shaped the album. In September 2015, they announced the album would release at the end of October. The first single, "New Again", came out on 24 September 2015. Three more singles followed in October: "Cold Hearts" on 8 October, "Bring You Home" on 15 October, and "Damage" on 22 October. A music video for "Nerve" was published on 24 February 2016.

Composition

The album was written in Joey Sturgis' basement by guitarist Austin Doré and clean vocalist Michael Swank. Screaming vocalist John Ritter said "Cold Hearts" challenges the superior demeanor society uses to judge its youth. He described "Damage" as about realizing one is in a bad romantic partnership and the determination to separate from it. Swank stated the album focused on relationships and that the title goes out to today's youth, following the ups and downs of growing up.

Touring

While the record was released, the band toured with Escape the Fate. In March and April 2016, they performed across the United States with Slaves, Capture the Crown, Outline in Color, and Conquer Divide, and played at Scream Out Fest in early June 2016 at AgeHa in Shinkiba, Japan. From mid-June to mid-July 2016, they embarked on The Young Souls Tour, their first nationwide headline run, with support from Out Came The Wolves and Light Up The Sky.

Critical reception

Nicholas Fike of FlippenMusic compared the band to We Came as Romans and Fall Out Boy, stating they combined nu-metal and mainstream rock with their own touch. Matthew Powers of CaliberTV noted that when Michael Swank sings the sound is more upbeat and top 40-worthy, while John Ritter's aggressive roars bring a spirited blend of nu-metal and hardcore, calling them nearly a more competent vocal duo than established peers. New Noise Magazine described the album as mixing Swank's electrifying voice and Ritter's crushing screams. Shae Beaudoin of Remember MEdia said the songs touch on broken trust, feeling lost, and letting go of negative people.
