Orbital Elevator

Lore & Background

The existence of these elevators fundamentally changed Armored Core warfare. Missions shifted from open-field skirmishes to vertical assaults along the trusswork of the tower itself. Pilots found themselves fighting in low-gravity environments or defending critical anchor points against sabotage teams. In Armored Core 4 and For Answer, the destruction of an elevator does not lead to diplomatic peace; instead, it triggers catastrophic resource denial—specifically the severing of Coral supplies—or total war termination by cutting the lifeline between Earth and orbit.

The Orbital Elevator utilizes advanced magnetic suspension and massive counterweights to maintain structural integrity against atmospheric drag. In-world, it functions as both a transport line for cargo and a conduit for energy transmission from orbital solar arrays. Corporations monopolize access rights, charging fees that fuel their economic dominance over rival factions.

Tactically, these structures become high-value targets or fortified strongholds depending on the faction holding them. Pilots often deploy Armored Cores along the ascent path to intercept enemy units attempting sabotage. Security forces patrol the base and mid-stages constantly, utilizing automated turrets mounted directly onto the trusswork.

For a mercenary, defending an elevator means holding ground against waves of attackers trying to sever the line. Attacking it requires precision strikes on support nodes or cable anchors to cause structural failure. Control over this infrastructure dictates who controls space access, making it the ultimate prize in modern warfare.
