Playing career
Hudson Fasching got his start at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota before spending two seasons with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the USHL. He committed to the University of Minnesota in December 2011 and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman team after the 2013–14 season. Over 115 games with the Golden Gophers, he put up 94 points, with 46 goals and 48 assists, and helped the team capture three straight regular-season titles. In his junior year, his last with the school, he served as an alternate captain and finished tied for the team lead in goals.
The Los Angeles Kings picked Fasching in the fourth round, 118th overall, of the 2013 NHL draft. On March 5, 2014, his rights were dealt to the Buffalo Sabres alongside Nicolas Deslauriers and a draft pick, with the Sabres sending Brayden McNabb, Jonathan Parker, and two picks the other way. He signed an entry-level contract with Buffalo on March 21, 2016, and made his NHL debut five days later, scoring his first NHL goal at 8:37 of the first period against the Winnipeg Jets. When a new front office took over in 2017, Fasching fell out of favor; that first goal turned out to be his only one in 22 games with the Sabres. By the end of the 2017–18 season, he was a healthy scratch for Buffalo’s AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.
On June 14, 2018, after two full seasons with the Sabres, Fasching was traded to the Arizona Coyotes for Brandon Hickey and Mike Sislo. He left Arizona as a free agent and signed a one-year, two-way deal with the New York Islanders on August 23, 2022. Called up from Bridgeport on December 1, 2022, he became a regular in the lineup and scored 10 goals during the 2022–23 season. The Islanders rewarded him with a two-year contract extension on May 1, 2023. After three seasons with the organization, he left as a free agent and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on August 18, 2025. Following 11 professional seasons in North America, Fasching chose to play abroad for the first time, inking a one-year deal with Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League on August 7, 2026.
