Playing career
Capobianco spent four junior seasons with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. After his 2014–15 season, in which he recorded 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points over 68 games, the Coyotes selected him. He was returned to junior hockey for the next two seasons, then upon the conclusion of the 2016–17 OHL season, he was called up to the AHL to play for the Tucson Roadrunners, appearing in four games without scoring. On June 30, 2017, the Coyotes signed him to a three-year entry-level contract. He began the 2017–18 season with Tucson, was recalled to Arizona on December 4, 2017, and made his NHL debut on December 7, 2017, against the Boston Bruins, logging 13:33 of ice time with no points and a –1 rating. He was soon reassigned to the AHL affiliate, then recalled again on January 1, 2018. Capobianco was selected for the 2018 AHL All-Star Game as a replacement for San Antonio Rampage defenceman Jordan Schmaltz. As a restricted free agent, he agreed to a two-year, $1.55 million contract extension with the Coyotes on October 5, 2020. Leaving Arizona as a free agent, he signed a two-year, $1.525 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on July 14, 2022. In his second year with the Jets organization, playing for the AHL's Manitoba Moose during the 2023–24 season, he won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's top defenseman, was named a First Team AHL All-Star, and participated in the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic, his fourth appearance at that event. After his contract with the Jets ended, he became a free agent and signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars on July 1, 2024.
