Background

For this album, Sabina worked with executive producer Pancho Varona, a longtime friend who had also produced the previous record. Antonio García de Diego also contributed to the production and would collaborate on future Sabina albums. Following the success of Hotel, dulce hotel, Sabina intensified his songwriting. He and Varona traveled to the Portuguese island of Madeira seeking inspiration but found the atmosphere unproductive, so they moved to Las Palmas, where work began. They returned to Madrid with two songs already composed: "Besos en la frente" and "Eva tomando el sol." The remaining tracks were written in undisclosed Madrid bars.

Style and production

The album reveals a darker, more nostalgic side of Sabina, with most songs conveying loneliness, sadness, languor, and lethargy. The first maxi single, "Eva tomando el sol," is a melancholic ballad recalling a brief love affair during his exile in London, incorporating details of daily life and biblical references to Adam and Eve. The second single, "Una de romanos," became a hit; it tells a personal story of a childhood romance in a cinema during a Roman Empire film, and a promotional video was made for it.

The most popular track, "¿Quién me ha robado el mes de abril?," intensifies the sadness, depicting a desperate landscape with real stories of lost hope. The fourth single, "Rap del optimista," closes the album with a more cheerful tone, commenting on the 1980s Spanish music scene and artists shifting from rock to mainstream pop for sales. Some songs from the album appeared in the soundtrack of the film Sinatra, directed by Paco Betríu and starring Alfredo Landa, in which Sabina made a brief cameo.
