Cabinet
The cabinet uses two Hi-Definition screens: a 22-inch touch screen for gameplay and a 32-inch upper screen for spectators. It includes a vibrating stage, game-based lights and speakers, and an ID-Card Reader for Platinum Crew ID Cards. The system runs on Windows XP Embedded with an Intel Celeron E1400, 2GB of RAM, a Biostar P31 mainboard, a 160GB Western Digital hard drive, a Creative Audigy sound card, and ATI Radeon graphics. The infrared touch screen supports multiple simultaneous inputs.
Gameplay
Four gameplay types are available. Popular Mixing is the normal mode with three songs and Popular Pattern note charts. Technical Mixing allows four songs: the player selects three from a disk set, and the final song depends on the results of the previous three; it uses Technical Patterns with faster scroll speeds or harder notes, and some songs are exclusive to this mode. Events and online tournaments occur in this mode, and a Special Pattern exclusive to Platinum Mixing appears on a handful of songs, arranged in monthly sets of three. Players have 60 seconds to pick a song; if the timer expires, the highlighted song is chosen. Notes must be touched as the timeline crosses them; missed notes break the combo and reduce HP, while hitting notes recovers HP. The game ends when HP reaches zero. Four note chart types exist: Lite Pattern, used only in Lite Mixing, is the easiest.
