Gameplay
The player controls a blue racing car, collecting ten yellow flags from the maze before the fuel bar empties. Each round contains eight common flags, one special flag that doubles subsequent flag scores, and one lucky flag that awards bonus points based on remaining fuel. Enemy red cars try to ram the player; a smoke screen button, costing fuel, temporarily immobilizes red cars that cross it. Colliding with boulders costs a life. Every fourth level is a bonus round where red cars remain still until fuel runs out.
Legacy
New Rally-X appears as the load-up game in Ridge Racer for the PlayStation Portable. It was included in Namco Museum Battle Collection for the PSP, alongside a new Arrangement version with updated graphics and mechanics. It also appeared in Jakks Pacific plug-n-play series, as New Rally-X S on Facebook, in Namco Museum Megamix for the Wii, and via Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in February 2022.
