Gameplay
You control a ship that slides left and right along the bottom of the screen, dodging alien attacks from above. Each level throws a specific type of alien at you, and these enemies get tougher to destroy as you advance. The game starts by showing three ships docked together. The smallest ship, armed with just one cannon, breaks away to begin play. If an alien touches your ship or its bomb hits you, that ship is destroyed and the next one in line takes its place. The second and third ships have wider wings and two cannons each. Lose all three, and the game is over.
Aliens start as harmless, multicolored eggs that drift randomly above your ship. You must shoot these eggs to free the creature inside. There are four kinds: Spiders, insect-like and moving randomly, worth 15 points. Lips, more aggressive in movement, worth 30 points. Wolves, which move randomly and often drop down to your ship’s height, worth 45 points. Fuzzballs, worth 80 points, bounce up and down quickly if they are to your left, but if they are to your right, they slide straight across the bottom toward you—this guarantees your destruction and appears to be a bug. In the first four waves, all eggs hatch the same creature. After that, eggs hatch random creatures. Dying resets the wave back to 1.
If your ship is in its second, medium-width stage and you have at least 1,000 points, you get a chance to dock with the first stage. That ship descends from the top of the screen, and you must line up exactly to catch it. Success merges the two ships into one with three cannons.
