Primary writer Sam Gill worked with Vincent Egan and Māori creatives from Maui Studios on her use of te reo Māori, visual markings, clothing and other cultural elements. A haka created for the character was written specifically for the game rather than adapting an existing traditional haka. Voice actor Nicola Kāwana was also involved in reviewing the character's extensive dialogue to refine its dialect and cultural context.
