Pitchfork uprising
A 1920 peasant revolt against war communism in the Urals-Volga region.
The Pitchfork Uprising of 1920, also called the Black Eagle Uprising, was a peasant revolt against war communism in what is now Eastern Tatarstan and Western Bashkortostan. It began on February 4, 1920, in the village of Yanga Yelan after peasants killed a food requisitioning unit. The rebel army, numbering 50,000 and armed only with farm tools, was crushed within weeks by Cheka forces using machine guns and artillery, leaving over 3,000 peasants dead.
