Last updated
Monk Little Dog (known in French as Monk: La cata sur pattes and in Korean as 멍크) is a series of animated shorts. The show was created by Kim Sung-jae of Kim's Licensing and produced by Timoon Animation, SAMG Animation, and Millimages. It first aired on June 16, 2009, on Canal+ in France, with its final episode broadcast on June 11, 2010.
In the UK, the series aired on CITV; in Australia, on ABC3; and in Latin America, on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. In Indonesia, it originally aired on Global TV (now GTV) from 2011 to early 2012, then moved to RTV from 2014 to 2016. The series originated from a set of storybooks featuring plasticine characters, released in 2006—notable titles include Monk's Mouth Country Trip (Korean: 멍크의 입속 나라 여행)—though development of the animated series began in 2005.
Unlike the storybooks, which included one human character, Monk Little Dog has no human characters. The main characters are Monk, a white bull terrier who is cheerful but clueless and chronically unlucky; Ding, a yellow English cocker spaniel who is Monk's arch-rival and Kimmy's love interest; Kimmy, a pink poodle who is Monk's crush and Ding's girlfriend; and Ben, a brown and tan bloodhound who is Monk's best friend, very lazy, and always asleep. Recurring characters include Sushi, Kimmy's pet cat who both hates and sometimes loves Monk; Bubul, a gray pit bull who is Monk's best neighbour; Bar, a funny and hilarious American Bulldog who does not appear so much; Loo, a brown chow-chow; Mi-hie, a comic book superhero and Monk's favorite character; Peace, a naughty and smart lebrel; San-say, a female dog who is a master of karate and kung-fu; Sally, Bubul's wife; Jimmy, an emo Old English Sheepdog who is Kimmy's cousin; The Tweets, Monk's house owners; Mr. Beaky, Monk's pet parrot who only appears in "Monk and the Birthday Cake"; Nonk and Jonk, Monk's parents (his father is identical to Monk but with a mustache and brown hat, while his mother resembles Kimmy but is mint blue); Mimmy, a gold-amber-yellow poodle reporter similar to Kimmy but light gold; and Len, Ben's dad who only appears on Monk's TV.
