Last updated

Grami's Circus Show (Korean: 그라미의 서커스 쇼; RR: Geuramiui seokeoseu syo) is a South Korean 3D animated slapstick comedy series from Studio Gale. It originally aired on KBS1 and is also available on Netflix. The story centers on three lions—Grami, Nemo, and Sam—along with their ringmaster Jack, as they rehearse and put on circus performances.

Grami, the title character, is a lion cub who is endlessly optimistic, never takes anything seriously, and never feels upset or sad. Jack is a strict, dignified, and hot-tempered ringmaster who hopes to get rich by running circus shows with lions. Nemo, a lion from Africa, is jealous of Grami; he is dumb, bossy, and relies on brute force to solve problems, always seeking Jack’s approval. Sam is a weakling lion from a zoo, tenderhearted and easily picked on by Nemo; his main desire is to relax and sleep.

Recurring characters include Baboo, a baboon working as an intern at the circus, and the Rabbits, who serve as the show’s audience. The series was directed by Chang Hwan Shin, written by Heong Myeong Choe and Chang Hwan Shin, and produced by Eunee Park, Jun Oh, and Yu Kyung Lee. Music was composed by Mint Condition.

The show received a Pulcinella award in 2014 in the category of "TV Series for Teen," making it the only Asian show to win that year. It was also an official selection for the SICAF awards but did not win. Critic Stuart Heritage of The Guardian described it as spectacularly inappropriate and admitted to being slightly obsessed, comparing watching it with a toddler to "playing chicken with object permanence."
