The story takes place in the world of Draconis, where 3,000 years ago a dragon-human war erupted. The golden Dragon of Legend chose a human rider, the Dragon Booster, to bring peace. In the present, humans command dragons, and another war looms. Connor Penn breeds a last Gold Dragon of Legend, Beau, who chooses stable boy Artha Penn as the Dragon Booster. Artha seeks to protect the world from war by defeating villains such as Moordryd Paynn and his father Word Paynn.

Main characters include Artha's brother Lance, best friend Parmon, and crew member Kitt Wonn. Connor Penn, a mentor figure, disguises himself as Mortis to guide the crew, while Artha's father is Word Paynn. Antagonists include Word Paynn, who wants to start another war, and his son Moordryd, who later becomes the Shadow Booster under the guidance of Armeggaddon, an ancient enemy of the original Dragon Booster. Other recurring characters include Phistus, Pyrrah, Khatah, and Propheci, a dragon who initially opposes the Dragon Booster but later becomes an ally.

The Penn Racing Crew and Family Dynamics

At the heart of the series is the Penn Racing Crew, a tight-knit group bound by both blood and a shared passion for dragon racing. Artha Penn, a sixteen-year-old stable boy and street racer, leads the team after being chosen by Beau as the Dragon Booster. His son Moordryd, initially Artha's chief rival and leader of the Dragon Eye Crew, gradually reveals heroic qualities and evolves into a complex anti-hero. Under the mentorship of Armeggaddon—an ancient enemy of the original Dragon Booster who helped start the first war and was imprisoned in the Shadow Track—Moordryd discovers a Black Draconium gauntlet and transforms into the Shadow Booster, wielding power that rivals Artha's own while riding a black dragon named Decepshun.

Despite this global reach, the series did not survive its third season. The final episode of Season 3 hinted at a planned rebrand to "Dragon Booster: Academy" for a potential fourth season, but the show was ultimately cancelled before that transition could materialize.
