Atomic Puppet is a Canadian-French animated series created by Jerry Leibowitz and Mark Drop. It was a co-production involving Mercury Filmworks, Technicolor, and Gaumont Animation. The show aired on Teletoon in Canada, France 4 in France, and Disney XD internationally. Its US debut on Disney XD was July 18, 2016, and the final episode aired February 21, 2017, with 26 episodes made.
The story follows seventh-grader Joey Felt and AP, a once-famous superhero now stuck as a powerless blue sock puppet. When Joey puts AP on his hand, they combine into Mega City's new hero duo, Atomic Puppet.
The plot begins when Captain Atomic shakes hands with 12-year-old fan Joey. His jealous sidekick Mookie then turns him into a living sock puppet. The powerless hero realizes he can only regain his powers by teaming up with Joey, a dream for the boy but a frustration for the hero. Together, they form an awkward partnership.
Main characters include Joey Felt (voiced by Eric Bauza), a 12-year-old comic fan who can combine with his idol. Captain Atomic (also voiced by Eric Bauza) was a famous superhero undone by his own ego, now called AP, struggling with his puppet form and his reliance on Joey.
Supporting characters include Pauline Bell (voiced by Lisa Norton), Joey's best friend who knows his secret and works at her uncle's comic shop. Joey's father Phil (voiced by Carlos Díaz) is gruff and learns the truth in the final episode. Mother Vivian (voiced by Kristina Nicoll) is overly caring, and sister Abigail (voiced by Katie Griffin) is an energetic 8-year-old. The family cat Bubbles is a slow-witted orange tabby; AP suspects him of being a villain, while Phil adores him. News host Rex Bordeaux (voiced by David Huband) is egotistical and built his career on Captain Atomic.
Villains include Sergeant Subatomic (Mookie, voiced by Peter Oldring), the bitter former sidekick who transformed Captain Atomic. He uses gadgets but lacks powers and lives in his mother's basement. Professor Tite-Gripp (voiced by Rick Miller) is a criminal with mechanical hands, once Captain Atomic's archenemy. Naughty Kitty (voiced by Heather Bambrick) is a cat-costumed thief parodying Catwoman. Zorp (voiced by Robert Tinkler) is a green alien who wants to eat Mega City's citizens, often with a smaller alien named Flert.
