The series is set on Xenoc, the heart of the universe, where the valuable energy source Xeno-energy has the power to create or destroy. For eons, this cosmic energy gathered and destroyed civilizations until the Zenterrans, the wisest and oldest species, managed to land containment chambers on the planet surface, built with the help of Fyran mechanics. Fearing war over the contained energy, Zenterran Master Khadan issued a contest: each alien civilization would choose a champion to race for the energy, and whoever controls the most Xeno-energy will decide the fate of the universe. Even the Kragnan Empire, a race of fierce crablike creatures who have enslaved or eaten half the universe, was welcome to compete.

The Zenterrans pledge strict neutrality, extending invitations even to the terrifying Kragnan Empire, while a being called Gamekeeper Kytani, literally forged from Xeno-energy, polices the rules. Ultrox: The Reluctant Champion

Ultrox, voiced by Brian Dobson, is a scientist and explorer hailing from the planet Alpheron whose very existence is a testament to Xeno-energy's destructive potential. At birth, the cosmic force stripped him of his natural arms and legs, leaving him dependent on robotic prosthetic limbs for the rest of his life. Rather than let that trauma define him, he devoted years to studying the energy in depth, working alongside Vakkon, the artificial intelligence embedded in his mobile laboratory vehicle. When Alpheron's Minister Prime Apex selected him to represent the planet in the interstellar races, Ultrox initially resisted. It was the young Fyran mechanic Jek who finally convinced him to compete, framing the races as a rare opportunity to observe Xeno-energy up close. Yet Ultrox's moral compass consistently clashes with the competitive structure: he repeatedly abandons races to rescue others, earning disqualifications that threaten his standing. Apex looms as a constant threat of replacement, and as the series progresses, Ultrox uncovers a far more dangerous development, rogue Xeno-energy, a violent and unpredictable mutation spreading across Xenoc because of the races themselves.

The Kragnan Empire and Its Warlords

The Kragnans are the series' most formidable antagonists: a species of aggressive, crablike beings whose civilization has subjugated or literally consumed half the known universe. Their technology is as unsettling as their biology, with spaceships forged from molten lava and ground vehicles constructed from bone, all designed using knowledge extracted from the brains of Fyran engineers they have devoured. Their ultimate goal is to harvest Xeno-energy to sustain a new generation of eggs. The empire's most visible competitor is Gnarl, a warlord voiced by Brian Drummond who pilots the Stoneklaw, a supercharged and heavily armed variant of the standard Kragnan Landkrab. The vehicle is a combat machine, devastating in a fight but noticeably slower than its rivals on open tracks, a weakness that defines much of his racing drama. Gnarl shows zero tolerance for compromise, will cheat without hesitation, and views every non-Kragnan as either prey or an obstacle. The Kragnans' relationship with the races is complicated by a pivotal incident in which Undermaster Akhil mind-controlled a Kragnan commander into triggering a trap that wiped out every Kragnan matching that individual's pattern, sparing only those shielded at the moment. Akhil was subsequently executed for his illegal use of mind-control, yet the show hints he will return.

The Ensemble and the Show's Tone

Beyond its central conflict, Alien Racers distinguishes itself through a colorful supporting cast that balances spectacle with genuine humor. Jek, voiced by Danny McKinnon, is a prodigal young Fyran from a planet renowned for producing some of the galaxy's most mechanically gifted engineers. After the Kragnans captured his uncle and consumed his brain to absorb his knowledge, Jek escaped and was rescued by Ultrox, becoming his loyal companion and chief mechanic. He dreams of taking the wheel himself, occasionally piloting the 3X-J or borrowing other racers' vehicles. Then there is G'rog, a N'tal athlete voiced by Doron Bell who claims the title of greatest competitor in the universe, having earned recognition across six planets. He is an avid Ultrox fan, sponsors a product called G'rogade, and drives an organic vehicle named the Battlesynth. The show's most memorable comedic beat involves G'rog settling tied races by flipping his own boogers, calling crusty side or slimy side the way one would call heads or tails. This lighthearted absurdity sits alongside darker elements like Skrash, the lone zombie native to Xenoc who once detonated an entire mountain mid-race, giving the series a tonal range that keeps it from feeling one-note.
